One of the oddest parts of the month of December to me is . . . Christmas Music. I realize that it gets people in the mood for Christmas, but seriously, the music is around for one month of the year for a reason: its incredibly lame. Now, I’m no scrooge, my tree is going up very soon, its just the music. Too often, artists and bands produce Christmas albums for two reason: 1) if they’re hot or has-beens, it can be a good way for their record label to make a few bucks (for some reason there is a huge market in this stuff). 2) it puts the artist/band one album closer to getting out of their record contract. Expect every popstar on Earth to make one of these things (a further demonstration of their lack of integrity).
That brings me to holiday shows. There are a lot playing in the area these days. I used to like these shows. They kind of got me pumped (I do like classic Christmas tunes . . . just not Miley Cyrus singing them), but then I worked at a music theatre for several years that had a christmas show. After watching the same show 6 nights a week (and some matinees) for two months, it made me really bored of these things. Somehow it was always the best selling show of the year and crowds would flock to it (it makes me almost fathom how people could trample someone at a Wal-Mart . . . no, no it doesn’t). While there are plenty of venues and artists playing these shows, this is not going to be the place to find your favorited Holiday/Winter/Christmas Shows.
