One great show to check-out this New Year’s Eve will be True Sound at Awful Arthur’s in Blacksburg, VA. This is the best way to celebrate the New Year for all the Hokie fans out there that could not make it to Atlanta for the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. What better place to watch the bowl? Watch them game then jam to some great music. The show will start with opening All Kinds of Gravity at 10pm. True Sound will hit at about 11pm. Tickets are $6 for 21+ and $10 for 18-21.

Focusing mostly on new wave and songs that established the foundation of what we used to call alternative music, a new 80s cover band is about to hit the bars of Maryland. The New Romance will play their first gig at Sonoma’s Bar in Columbia on Saturday. They also have a couple of shows scheduled at The River Watch in Essex, including a New Year’s party. Check out their demos on their site and you’ll agree they are a pretty rad addition to the Charm City scene.

If you can’t get enough of The Roots five nights a week on Jimmy Fallon’s show (which you probably can’t), you’re in luck as they hit a mini-tour during their holiday break from the show. No doubt they’ll be bumpin’ their yet-to-be-released-album “How I Got Over” along the way. They’re going to be stopping in DC at the 9:30 Club twice (December 29th and December 30th). Doors open at 7pm for both shows and tickets are $45. I’ve seen the band at 9:30 club twice and both shows were The Roots at their best – I have seen them other times at other places and the shows can’t compare. While it is only a 5 stop, 6 night tour, they are going from coast to coast (dates after the jump). (more…)
