After getting out of a bad record contract (more on the point of bad record contracts another time), Politicks is happy to be realeasing its new album this weekend. Politicks will be performing with The Influence and Atom Strange at Iota Club on Friday, June 12th starting at 9:00pm. Tickets are $10 at the door for those 21+. The album, Paint It in Color, will be sold for $10 at the show, so go and get your copy. The album was mainly produced by the band and has given them the freedom to harness their original blend of Rock and Funk.

In general, Iota Club and Cafe in Arlington, Virginia has a reputation for getting some great up and coming indie rock bands almost every night of the week. However, this week they’re taking it up a notch with Future, a band that has an original mix of funk, hip-hop and rock. As far as up and coming bands with an original style go, Future is one of the best acts from Virginia that you can catch. In January, Future was the DC 101 feature band. Catch Future at Iota on Friday, February 20th. The show starts 9:00pm with DJ Chuck X kicking things off. Cost: $10 at the door.

For the funk lovers out there, and I know there are a few of you, Modern Groove Syndicate is playing at Cary Street Cafe in Richmond on Friday, 12/19. This quintet blurs the lines of funk, jazz and hip-hop with a little New Orleans groove thrown in for flavor. The cover is $7 and the show starts at 10pm.
Closer to home, not quite as funky but everybit as good, Last Train Home is rockin Iota Club in Arlington on Friday at 9:00pm. They’re a regional favorite and always draw a great crowd. (more…)
